The
90th year was a deciding period in my life. There were two main considerations
before me. In the year 1994 I wanted to sit the G.C.E. Ordinary Level
Examination. The other factor which I had to prepare was my learning Marshal
Arts and appearing at the contest to obtain Black Belt 1st Class. Due
to my engaging in the fighting techniques I had developed a new rhythm,
well-controlled mind and strength to support clear leadership within my
body. During this period at the under 16 year Karate Championship Contest
held in 1994 I became the All Ceylon Champion and obtained Black Belt
1st Class. After sitting the Ordinary Level Examination in 1994 I was
interested in seeking new avenues. In the 90th year Western and Indian
dance forms steadily developed in Sri Lanka. As I had a great liking I
was drawn towards dancing. At that time I recall a wonderful incident
that took place at a wedding ceremony held at the house of a relation.
A request was made by a lady to present an item. I accepted it and came
forward for that purpose. I could not perform properly before her and
I was put into a difficult position. On that day my aim was to learn dancing
somehow or other. I who decided in this manner could not find a teacher to learn dancing. The interim period passed away day by day. One day a friend who was at school with me came to my house. On that occasion while I had a friendly discussion with him I asked him to help me to find a teacher who was at Tangalle. My anxiety was so much that I went with my friend to the Tangalle Town. On that day I was able to meet the teacher. Thereafter I followed a course in dancing at that place and the instructor was of the opinion that I was the cleverest student among the others. Due to my cleverness and keenness I was able to achieve my desire to learn something more in a short period. As there were many things to learn and many things to do realized that the time had come for me to join another institution. Making sacrifices contributed towards my dancing experience. As I proceeded dancing I realized that I had creative ability and what I now needed was to develop what I had learnt and enrich dancing. I designed a dance form for a popular Hindi Song and trained two of my friends towards its success. After completing the training they told me that I had the copyright and that it had creative ability. After that they put forward a fantastic proposal. As there were no facilities for the young men and women to learn dancing they suggested that I must become a dancing instructor. With this idea gaining around in me I had to overcome several practical difficulties. Among them, finding a place, the manner in which propaganda work should be carried out, lack of experience and financial difficulties occupied prominence. At this time the advice & assistance of the proprietor of a tapo recording institute and an elderly person in charge of a group of musicians I was able to fulfill my desires. The lack of a personality and the fact that I was 16 years of age created doubts in my mind whether I would be able to function as an instructor. While undergoing training in marshals Arts I gained experience and ability to impart knowledge, which helped me to become an instructor in dancing. I commenced as an Instructor in Tangalle in September 1995 at an auspicious hour with the help of my worthy friend Santha Aiya in Tangle.
As time passed by publicity was given under the Thurunu Sakthi Programme in the National Youth Council and Ranga Dhara Programme telecast over the TNL Cannel….. After the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 I had the strength to organize concerts named “Churaliya”, “Ayubowan”, Its my Life and “Saturday Night” every year. During this period I was engaged in preparing for the G.C.E. A/Level Examination. After E.C.E. A/Level Examination I opened branches throughout the Island starting from the South moved towards Colombo. Gradually I was able to face successfully handling the branches within the Island importing dancing experience among the other students and providing chances to clever students to participate in the Rupavahini programmes. In the year 2003 while I am engaged in organizing such a concert I am determined to achieve success. I am anxious to acquire training in foreign countries and if there is anyone who could assist me I can improve my knowledge in dancing. Students of both sex, free of age barrier are recruited to the SparrowS Dancing Classes, throughout Sri Lanka. Further arrangements are afoot to meet your equipments at birthday parties, weddings, open-air entertainment programmes and any other such performances on specific requests at comparatively cheaper rates. The addresses of venue for such classes may vary. Therefore those willing to seek studies in dancing are kindly requested to telephone or contact the organizer, on the web site www.sparrowsdancing.com Tele no: 0777 514698 / 0777 535018 |
